Portavadie Marina, The Journey Rewarded

One of my most thrilling visits during my first year as Chair of VisitScotland was to Portavadie Marina. In this post-recession era it's enormously refreshing to see a truly inspiring development.

For me, Portavadie Marina is a glimpse into the future of the quality and customer focus I'd like to see across Scotland. For instance the showering area for families who have just arrived by sea is absolutely amazing. A perfect example of the Marina's dedicated approach to visitor satisfaction. To run a tourist facility of the standard of Portavadie Marina you need excellent staff and I was hugely encouraged to see the exemplary staff accommodation which sets the standard that I'd like to see in other developments across Scotland.

Portavadie Marina is one of Scotland's newest and most exciting developments. The entire facility is designed to offer the visitor hospitality of the highest level and I wish the team well as they continue the development of what I anticipate will be an exemplar of best practice for years to come.

 40th Birthday Celebrations

Good morning, Iain and Sinead,I want to thank you and your team for such a wonderful visit to Portavadie Marina this weekend. Everyone from our party had a fantastic time, and everyone commented on the fantastic facilities, and the excellent service we received.In particular, I would appreciate it if you could pass our thanks onto Raj, who provided excellent service throughout the weekend: nothing was too much trouble, and he is really a wonderful asset to your team.In addition, thanks also to Chris and to Simona, who were both fantastic.The meal on Saturday evening was fabulous- the scallops were amazing, the steak was perfect, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

 Just a short note to thank you and all the staff for making our short stay (1month) at Portavadie marina so enjoyable.

It has been a delight to spend some time cruising the Clyde for the past month something I haven’t done for over 10 years. We have rediscovered an area we always enjoyed and hope to return next year for a much longer stay.Portavadie is by far the “marina jewel” in the Clyde with only one fault……. It is too far away from my home in Cheshire. Once again thanks for all the assistance that was provided to make our stay in the marina a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Dear Portavadie, Thank you for a lovely stay. The marina is a perfect place to host a wedding. The staff are so friendly and effecient. Who could ask for lovlier surroundings or accommodation!! I could have gladly stayed for a week or more!

The wedding breakfast was fantastic, the service first class! The staff at the lodge are all lovely. Well thanks again for a brilliant stay! 1st class!

Apartments and events

The apartments exceeded all our expectations. They are so well designed and every thought has been given to comfort and practicality. The party apartment (no 2) was exactly what we wanted. All our guests were very impressed and I am sure more bookings will be made because of the event. The extra touches were much appreciated - the biscuits and the umbrellas.

A big thanks to Sinead and all the marina staff who patiently dealt with all my changes and requests. Thanks to everyone we had a wonderful celebration of our 40 years marriage and have very many happy memories. Thank you once again and I am sure we will be back again (perhaps for the Halloween party)!!

Dear All
On behalf of my family, I'd like to thank you all for the warm welcome we received during our stay and commend you all for the fantastic facilities you have created at Portavadie. My parents have had the most relaxing stay in the cottage and loved every minute. The kids loved the play area, spending time with their grandparents and were especially taken with the family bathroom with the television. The menu and the food in the restaurant were excellent and please pass on our compliments to the kitchen team.

We stayed in the marina for a week during August 2009, a group of us on a yacht and a group in the cottages. We ate in the restaurant every day and given the weather at the time it was the highlight of our stay. The food was excellent and service superb. Our kids tried new foods, mussels and langoustines as did the adults. We cannot wait to come back again.

Argyll Council does Business Portavadie Style

We (Argyll and Bute Council) hired the Board Room to run a day’s course for some of our clients. I was the facilitator of the course and wanted to let you know, independently of the Council, how the event went from my perspective. This was the first time I had used your services - although I have been to the Marina many times before - normally using the other entrance.

The Portavadie staff I worked with in setting up the hardware and getting the room into shape were exceptionally helpful. In fact, that theme of helpfulness and support lasted all day and included lunch and the refreshment breaks. You may have heard the cheer that went up with the delivery of the cake tray in the mid-afternoon - just right to replenish flagging spirits.

The room itself set exactly the right atmosphere for discussion and small group work and everything worked as it should do. Having worked in the University sector for many years, you have no idea just how refreshing it is to walk into a room and know that all the hardware is going to work as it is designed to do - and the staff are briefed to make sure that the event, if at all possible, be made successful.

So, many thanks to you staff for making the day work so well. The feedback from the clients was very strong, although they collectively thought I had worked them too hard (for a Sunday).
